Meet Our Team!
Craig A. Stevens, MD
Dr. Stevens, the owner of Triangle Family Care, earned his undergraduate B.A. degree in Natural Systems from the Defiance College (Defiance, Ohio) in 1985 and his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (Cincinnati, Ohio) in 1989. After completing his residency in Family Medicine at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, he worked for several local traditional family practices and urgent care centers.
In mid-1997, Dr. Stevens relocated to North Carolina, where he continued to practice medicine with various offices, including Rex Urgent Care of Cary. In October of 2001, Dr. Stevens opened the Triangle Family Care facility here at its present location.
Recently, Dr. Stevens has become involved with other health-related businesses. Stay on the look out for Azura Skin Care Center, a med spa in Cary; Corner Care Clinics, walk-in clinics at your friendly independent pharmacies; and an urgent care center in the Briar Chapel area of Orange county.
Traveling and photography are two of Dr. Stevens’ hobbies. He enjoys taking images of landscapes, architecture, and nature. In fact, many of the framed photographs decorating the office are photos taken by Dr. Stevens. He is a frequent visitor to local art shows, art galleries, and estate auctions so that he can add to his own personal collection of art that he has amassed over the years.
During his limited free time, Dr. Stevens likes to garden, dabble in turning wood, create stained glass pieces and sometimes even take up brush to canvas from time to time. He also enjoys playing poker. As a lover of antiques, good food and wine, whenever Dr. Stevens travels, he generally tries to find local restaurants for great food and drink and antique or vintage shops to look for those one-of-a-kind pieces or a real bargain.
When asked, What makes Triangle Family Care different from other family practices, Dr. Stevens explains that the ‘Family’ in Triangle Family Care is what makes the difference. Dr. Stevens says that even if two patients are diagnosed with the same condition, each patient may experience different symptoms and have different reactions to the same medications. Just as no two patients are alike, no treatment plan is a blanket treatment plan. At Triangle Family Care, patients don’t become just a number or a statistic – each patient is an individual with distinct needs that we make it a habit to cater to. This is the ‘Family’ difference.
Kellie W. Furin, FNP
Kellie Furin is a board certified Nurse Practitioner who has been with Triangle Family Care since early 2006. She earned her BS degree in Nursing from the University of Georgia and her Master’s degree in Nursing from UNC Chapel Hill.
Prior to joining Triangle Family Care, she worked as a nurse at UNC Children’s Hospital in Pediatric Oncology. Kellie is married and has two children and has made North Carolina her home since early 2003. Her responsibilities like all the FNPs at Triangle Family Care include seeing patients for acute and chronic conditions, prescribing appropriate treatments and medications, ordering radiology tests, and referring patients to specialists as necessary. She’s very personable, but passionate about good health!
Kellie now only spends two days per week in the office so that she can care for her young family, but she does manage to find time to work on her sewing business: Kellie Bellies (check it out online!). She still enjoys traveling (locally and internationally), sewing, gardening, and reading.
Elise Berkland, FNP
Elise Berkland is a board certified nurse practitioner who started working at Triangle Family Care in October of 2015. She earned her BS degree in nursing from Boston College and after working on the inpatient hematology/oncology floor in a Washington, DC hospital, she moved back to North Carolina to pursue her master’s of nursing at UNC-Chapel Hill. After completing that, she began her FNP career at the Durham County Health Department before finding her way back to primary care here at Triangle Family Care!
Elise enjoys the variety of patients she sees in primary care for both acute and chronic conditions and has a particular interest in reproductive and sexual health including contraception management. She looks forward to working in partnership with her patients to achieve their healthcare goals.
Elise and her husband made Durham, NC their home in 2012. In their free time you can find the Berklands hiking around the Triangle with their dog Ginny. They enjoy travel to both new cities and their old favorite spots like Smith Mountain Lake and gladly jump at the chance for international travel. An ideal day for Elise includes a cup of coffee and a good book!
